Agentic AI & software architecture

I'm a first-year PhD student working at the intersection of agentic AI systems, software architecture, and energy-efficient AI — after more than a decade building backend systems at Cisco and as a software architect. My research designs green, trustworthy, human-centered agentic AI systems that can reliably design software architectures.

Agentic AI that is green, trustworthy and human-centered — and that reliably designs software architectures.

Architectural design is judgement work: trade-offs between quality attributes, made under incomplete information and lived with for years. My question is what it takes for agentic systems to take part in that work credibly — and what the energy those systems burn should cost them in the evaluation.

The research is part of my PhD in Software Engineering at the University of L'Aquila, and draws on thirteen years of building and architecting production backends — most of them on Cisco network-management platforms, where architectural decisions are measured in uptime.

Green

Treat the energy an agentic system consumes as a first-class quality attribute, not an afterthought.

Trustworthy

Architectural decisions an agent proposes should be inspectable, explainable and open to challenge.

Human-centered

Agents that work alongside architects and keep people in the decision loop, rather than replacing them.

Reliable

Design support that holds up across systems and contexts — dependable, not occasionally impressive.
